According to former Chelsea defender Paulo Fereirra, The Blues are still capable of, and have what it takes to win the Premier League title. At the beginning of the season, this statement appeared to make more sense given how much investments the club’s owner Roman Abramovic made in the summer to ensure that the goal is achieved.
The Russian billionaire splashed over £200 million on new signings including Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Edouard Mendy after putting in so much faith in former manager Frank Lampard as he tried to bring back the league title to Stamford Bridge. Following the new signings, Chelsea were already looking like a side ready to even compete for the UEFA Champions League trophy after the new additions to the first-team squad.
The season started with Chelsea making a huge statement as serious title contenders as the continued to seal wins after wins with many pundits and past players tipping them to end the season as Premier League Champions. But as the season continued, their sparkle began to dim and their star players no longer took center stage to show the best of their qualities anymore. Their poor run resulted in Abramovic dishing out a sack letter to Lampard whose contract was terminated and was giving his marching orders with immediate effect.
Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel was immediately brought in to replace Lampard and has since seen his side play two Premier League games; a 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 2-0 win over Burnley. And Fereirra believes the arrival of Tuchel can revive Chelsea’s title bid. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former defender said Chelsea still have the quality to win the league regardless of their current position.
